Match Highlights on Australian’s World Cup: Australia held off Afghanistan for a four-run victory in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 match. Australia, the tournament’s hosts and incumbent winners, risk an early departure unless Sri Lanka defeats England on Saturday. However, one club has already advanced to the last four.

We take a look at the Group 1 standings with one game remaining.

Australian's World Cup

Who has advanced to the semi-finals?

New Zealand advanced for the semi-finals after defeating Ireland on Friday at Australian’s World Cup. The Black Caps now have seven points and a substantially better Net RR over Australia, who also have seven points. Only England can now knock them off top place with a massive margin of victory against Sri Lanka, but even in that unlikely scenario, the Kiwis would still finish as group runners-up at the Australian’s World Cup.

Match highlights: Ireland’s pacer took a stunning hat-trick, but New Zealand proved too strong, winning by 35 runs in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 match.

All eyes will be on England and Sri Lanka

The winner of Saturday’s match between England and Sri Lanka will join New Zealand in the final four from Group 1 at Australian’s World Cup. The Sri Lankans would have hoped that Rashid Khan would get Afghanistan over the line in his incredible late flurry against Australia on Friday, but Australia’s win means that Sri Lanka can no longer finish in the top two. Furthermore, Australia’s narrow victory over Afghanistan means that Net RR is no longer a decisive factor.

So the equation is simple for England: beat Sri Lanka and they advance at the expense of Australia. There is still a chance for England to win Group 1 at the Australian’s World Cup, but it would take an enormous and extremely unlikely margin of victory, around 125 runs, to overtake New Zealand.

If Sri Lanka wins at the SCG, Australia will finish second in the group.

Important Final Match

Saturday, November 5, SCG, Sydney, Sri Lanka vs. England

For England and Australia, everything is riding on this game.

England would advance with a win, while Australia would require a favor from Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka looked strong in their two Super 12 victories, over Ireland and Afghanistan, but they haven’t beaten England in a T20I since 2014 at the Australian’s World Cup odds. Since that victory at The Oval in London, England has won seven consecutive matches, the most recent being a 26-run victory in last year’s T20 World Cup.
